Education played an important role in the lives of early
residents. Photos of one-room schools, graduating classes, and
diplomas serve as a reminder of students' academic struggles and
accomplishments. The teacher's desk, slates, and display case of
school memorabilia offer a glimpse into the past. |
|
Prior to cars, trucks, and airplanes, the predominant form
of transportation was the railroad. Otsego County was served by
twelve railroad companies over the years including: Antrim Iron
Railroad, BCG&A, Detroit and Mackinaw, Detroit and Charlevoix, Grand
Rapids and Indiana, Hanson Land Co., Kneeland Bigelow Co., Michigan
Central , Stephen Lumber Co., and Yuill Brothers Lumber Company. |

The military display highlights the
involvement of country servicemen in World War II, with the focus on
Ralph Holewinski, decorated for his heroic acts during the battle of
Wake Island, in the South Pacific. |
