A special exhibit is on the Dayton Last Block Works, a factory located in Gaylord from 1900-1930.  Primarily it made shoe lasts, the forms used in making shoes.  It also produced golf heads and bowling pins.  The factory was the largest of its kind in the world and employed up to 400 people.  It was located on Old 27 in the vicinity of the Otsego County Library.
One of the most unique features of the Museum is this advertisement painted on the west wall of the building.  The sign would have had to been painted prior to 1912 at which time the existing Museum wall was built and would have covered the sign.  The sign was uncovered and re-discovered when the building was renovated to house the Museum in 1992

The Otsego County Historical Museum opened in 1992.

Gordon & Marlene Everett generously provided the Historical Society with the museum building by gift and nominal purchase.

The dream of having a permanent location to display the history of Otsego County has become a reality for future generations to enjoy.
