THANKS FOR GOOD
FRIENDS
It is past due time to recognize our Friends for their
outstanding support of the library in 2010. Our very good
friends, officially known as “Friends of the Otsego County
Library”, reorganized in 2008. Since that time they have taken
on projects and provided funding for a variety of programs,
services and library improvements that would not have otherwise
been possible.
OCL’s Friends manage and operate the Used Book sales where they
sell “gently used” books at very low prices all year long. Most
books sell in the library for $1 or less, with brand-new, gift
quality items topping out at $4.00. Online sales of collectible
books this year generated another $3,370!
The work of the volunteers who sort, price and post all the
donated items resulted in gifts to the library of around
$15,000. Since the beginning of 2010 the Friends have:
• Provided funds to complete the Newspaper Digitization Project
• Coordinated and funded the Home Delivery Service for persons
cannot travel to the library
• Committed $10,000 to the Library Renovation project
• Provided refreshments and free book bags for the library open
house in June
• Purchased a Nintendo Wii gaming system and TV for the teen
area
• Supported the new “Battle of the Books” program – in our first
year of regional competition our teams placed 1st and 3rd and
brought home the coveted “BOB” trophy
• Funded a variety of special programs for all ages
Anyone can join the Friends of OCL for an annual cost of just
$5.00. Although there are volunteer opportunities, it is not a
requirement of membership!
So purchase a used book, buy a tote, join the Friends, make a
donation, help support OCL. And join us in a well-deserved round
of applause for our many Friends of the Otsego County Library
who continue to make this a better library through their
financial support and advocacy.
With sincere appreciation
The Staff and Board of Trustees of the Otsego County Library
