Mediation Training
Starts September 9 in Gaylord
Community Mediation Services
will present a 40-hour training for new mediators September 9-11
and September 16-18 in Gaylord.
This Michigan State Court Administrative Office (SCAO) approved
curriculum provides an overview of the state’s Alternative Dispute
Resolution program and the mediation process. Participants learn
listening, questioning, negotiating, conversation skills, summarizing
techniques, agreement writing, and more.
Classes will be held Thursdays September 9 & 16 from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.,
Fridays September 10 & 17 from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Saturdays September
11 & 18 from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Participants MUST attend all class hours to successfully complete the
training and begin the required internship.
Training will be held at the Otsego County United Way Building in
Gaylord located at 116 Fifth Street (at the corner of Fifth and Elm
Streets).
Snacks and beverages will be provided, as well as lunch on Fridays and
Saturdays.
Trainers are Judith Doan and Grant Bliss.
Training fee is $150 per person for participants who agree to
serve as a volunteer mediator with Community Mediation Services. The
cost of the training for those who do not wish to volunteer with CMS is
$500 per person. The fee covers all course materials including training
manuals and meals.
Payment must be made prior to the first class on September 9, 2010.
Registration deadline is Friday, September 2, 2010.
