DINNER AUCTION NEARS!!
Yes, the Annual LeeLaCross Dinner Auction is now less than a month away, and the usual things need to be said:
SELL DINNER TICKETS!!
SELL RAFFLE TICKETS!!
BRING IN PRIZES FOR AUCTION!!
BUY A TABLE (8) AND BRING FRIENDS
GET MORE PRIZES FROM LOCAL MERCHANTS!!!!
SELL MORE DINNER TICKETS!!
Kathy Kwierant has been doing a magnificent job of ramrodding the auction, but still lacks some much-needed assistance. In particular, the long list of folks once contacted by the late Bob Copenhaver needs to be looked at and split up by the membership. It will be available at the next meeting for your perusal and action.
Kathy also needs the committee chairpersons for the auction to at least make an appearance at the club meetings to inform the membership of how they are doing in their area of responsibility. Please! Show up and tell us where you’re at and what you need to make this a success.
She also still needs a “Prize” chairperson to oversee the collection of prizes, to keep people from calling on the same local folks, and to help array the prizes in the “Live”, “Bucket”, or “Silent” auctions. Help!! Somebody step up and give Kathy a hand here. Remember the meeting when it was unanimous that we should hold the auction? Well, now’s the time that we need your time, energy, and interest to make it happen.
Raffle tickets are now available from Grant Bliss, who will have them at the next meeting (as well as having his truck to haul the prizes people bring to the meeting).
A successful Dinner Auction will get the club well again financially. It’s been a tough year in a lot of ways, but together we can dig out of the hole we’ve acquired in the service budget and look forward to a more effective and creative future for all of our work . .
. . with youth, for the community, for very young children, and for human and spiritual aims. Let’s commit to getting it done!
NUT SALE ON TRACK . . .
Thanks to Rick LaRouche, the club’s nut sale, a new venture for us, is on track
for a successful season. We have already had some commitments for major sales,
as well as having a good response from local stores, which will have the nuts on
display and carry them for the club.
Additionally, Rick informs us that the vendor will buy back any product
(in case lots) which we don’t sell during the pre Christmas season.
That provides us with a cushion for ordering.
Major responsibility of the membership for the nut sale will be delivery of
orders at the close of the sale when the cases of nuts have been delivered to
us. This looks like a good addition to the club’s fund-raising efforts and will
be especially timely this year.
STEVE RESIGNS . . . .
Steve Riozzi was just about ready to assume the presidency of the club, when he
changed jobs and found that his new schedule would keep him from investing the
time and energy necessary to be club president. Always responsible, Steve turned
in his resignation to the board, which accepted it on Sept. 2nd and named
President-elect Gil Zachariah to fill the vacancy.
Now we need to fill the vacancy left by Gil as President-elect. The
President-elect’s major responsibility is to familiarize him or herself with the
budget and finances of the club, and to be the “Program” chairman . . .
assigning various club members to provide programs for our meetings. Who’s ready
for this job?
GIL CALLS BUDGET MEET
Our upcoming President, Gil Zachariah has called an important meeting of
committee chairs and the treasurer for a budget meeting at 4:30 p.m. Thursday,
September 23rd at the Best Western
Along with John Hatzl, our treasurer, Gil expects: Pat McBride, Youth Services
Chair; Jim McBride, Community Services Chair; Jet Ormsbee, Human and Spiritual
Aims Chair; and George Bour, Chair of Young Children/ Priority One.
CLUB NOTES
INSTALLATION OF OFFICERS TO BE HELD ON SEPTEMBER 30TH
at the Best Western at our usual spot, we’ll have a buffet dinner (featuring
whitefish) and the cost will be ca. $10 or $12 for dinner. Our Lt. Gov.
will be there to do the honors. The Kiwanian of the Year will be named, as will
the Citizen of the Year. President Jim will turn over the gavel (at long last)
to incoming Prez Gil. Spouses and guests are encouraged to attend and welcomed
when they do. (Hey, Barb, Dianne, coming?)
Let’s turn out and support the new officers and board members as they take over
the leadership of the club. _________________________________________________
Preliminary meetings have been held for the Christmas Basket program. Budget
constraints have forced some re-planning of the program and the committee,
chaired by Howard Cheney, has tentatively eliminated both gifts and hams as part
of the baskets this year, which will save the club some $6000, and eases the
pressure on our service budget.
It’s a busy season for Kiwanians with the Dinner Auction, the Christmas
Basket program, the Goodfellow Paper, and the Nut Sale all coming in the same
three months. Let’s do it!
