July 2011 marks one year since I joined the Arts Council and six months since elected President. During that time I have been most impressed by the artistic talent that exists right here in our community and in the surrounding areas. The art exhibits, concerts, and collaborative efforts I have witnessed have been inspiring and heartening.
The paintings featured from the winners of the juried fine arts show and the photographs by Robert deJonge were amazing. Our exhibit this month features photographs by those who were winners of the last juried photography show. I encourage you to stop in the Center to witness for yourself the artistic talent that exists in your community. These photographs are beautiful.
And take advantage of the Zentangle workshop being held later this month, the opportunity to have your antiques and other items appraised in August, and a workshop invitational exhibit in September.
The gratitude and cooperation we have received at the Center as we’ve continued to operate exclusively with a volunteer staff, have been most encouraging. My fellow Board members, along with other members of the Arts Council, have been most generous with their time as they serve regularly to keep the Center open and operational. A first rate example is the fresh appearance you are experiencing in this newsletter. Thanks to Suzy Raymer who agreed to serve as designer and editor of our quarterly “Art News.”
We are all committed to meeting the mission of Gaylord Area Council for the Arts. Stop in the Center soon and let us enhance your life through the arts.
