Join Huron Pines AmeriCorps Member, Otsego Conservation District Education Coordinator, and
self-proclaimed "guy that likes plants" (not to mention former Michigan Natural Features Inventory
Seasonal Ecologist), Justin Burchett, for a romp through the woods to explore the wildflowers in
bloom, learn how to identify them, and in some cases learn of various uses for the plants
This year we will be presenting the Spring Woodland Wildflower Walk in conjunction with the
HeadWaters Land Conservancy. Our walk will take place at their Sturgeon River Preserve located
just north of Gaylord. We will meet at 5:30 PM in the parking lot of the Alpine Center (800
Livingston Blvd., Gaylord, MI 49735) to carpool and caravan the 8 miles to this beautiful 39 acre
For those that wish to meet us at the preserve rather than carpool and caravan, you can get there
by heading north on Old US 27 from downtown Gaylord. Once you reach Whitmarsh Rd., head east
(right) for about 3 miles. The preserve is located immediately after where the Sturgeon River and
the road intersect. You will notice a sign at the entrance to the preserve near the road. There is also
a map available here.
RSVPs are not required, but are appreciated. They can be done by calling (989)
732-4021 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
