Minutes of Regular meeting of Charlton Township Board—June 11  2001

The regular June meeting of the Charlton Township Board was called to order by Chairman Willis Walker at 8:05 pm on Monday, June 11, 2001.

All board members present.

Others present:  Lee Olsen, Pat Kundrat, Robert Fleury,  Skip Diercks, Marian Walker, Sally Nowak, Patricia Osborne.

Those present opened the meeting with the pledge to the flag.

Milbocker moved. Huff supported, to accept the minutes of the previous regular meeting as printed.  Ayes, all.  Motion carried.

The Treasurer's was accepted as presented with the following balances on hand:  General Operation, $ 231,098.17;  Roads Account, $ 344,134.96.

Lee Olsen gave a report on county activities.  He presented numbers with a hand out of taxable income for the county.  Talked about zoning and rezoning of land for commercial use.  Talked about the new tower for the fire department.  Lee stated that we may be able to use the new radio tower on Beckett Road to increase coverage.

Skip Diercks discussed the county master plan with those present.  Talked about rezoning and land use in the township.  Talked about rezoning more than 500' deep on the M-32 corridor for commercial property.

Old Business.

Willis stated that the fire truck is ordered and should be here within 60-90 days.

Kim talked about our contract with Royal Linen.  She stated that she is getting prices from Arrow Linen and Thompson's Linen.

Read a letter from the Otsego County Planning & Zoning department in regards to a request to construct a commercial sign on property in Johannesburg.

Huff moved. Milbocker supported, to recommend approval to the Otsego County Planning & Zoning department of a request of Tommee & Wendy Render to construct a sign on property in Johannesburg on M-32.  Application meets ordinance requiremnets.  Existing house and garage to be removed.  Ayes, all.  Motion carried.

Discussed natural gas coming into the township and Johannesburg.  Milbocker moved. Samkowiak supported, to file an application with Presque Isle Electric and Gas for gas service for the hall/firestation and the office/library.  Ayes, all.  Motion carried.

Pat Osborne was present at the meeting representing the Otsego Conservation District.  This is through the Michigan Department of Agriculture.  She talked about her budget for her office in Gaylord.  Also, she asked questions of the board members to our concerns about soil conservation, erosion, lakes and streams, etc.  Talked about the upcoming hazardous waste pick up in Gaylord on Saturday, June 23, 2001.

Milbocker moved. Huff supported, to authorize the Johannesburg 4th of July Committee to have fireworks in the township on Independance Day.  Ayes, all.  Motion carried.

Read a letter requesting roadwork on Brown Road.  Willis will get a quote from the county road commission.

Milbocker moved. Huff supported, to pay the General Fund bills presented in the amount of $28,814.01.  Ayes, all.  Motion carried.
