Minutes of regular meeting of Charlton Township Board - January 8, 2001

The regular January meeting of the Charlton Township Board was called to order by Deputy Supervisor Matt Nowak at 7:00 pm on Monday, January 8, 2001.  Those present recited the pledge of allegience.

Board members present:  Samkowiak, Milbocker, Huff, and Maschke.

Members absent:  Walker.

Others present:  Lee Olsen, Pat Kundrat, Robert Fleury, Jos. Edwardtowski, Eber Wolf, Bob Pewinski, and Tammy Myers.

Milbocker moved, Huff supported, to accept the minutes of the previous regular meeting as printed.  Ayes, all.  Motion carried.

Kim Samkowiak presented the Treasurer's report as follows:  General operation, $158,055.12; Roads account, $191,065.74.

Maschke moved, Milbocker supported, to accept the Treasurer's report as presented.  Ayes, all.  Motion carried.

Matt asked if there were any items to bring up from the audience.

Bob Fluery stated that natural gas will be piped in in the spring.

Lee Olsen gave a report on county commissioner activities.  He stated that a raise will be given to the clerk and treasurer in excess of a normal increase.  He thinks that four lame duck commissioners conspired together to give a big raise.  He also stated that he is the chairman of the animal control operation.  Lee asked Tammy Myers about the new radios installed in the Fire/EMS vehicles.  Both Tammy and Bob Pewinski stated that they worked good.  Lee also stated that the training for the 800 MHZ radios will begin in February.

Talked about internet hook-up.  Will check with Maureen Derenzy of the Otsego County Library.

County Association meeting will be held at Bagley Hall on January 23, 2001.  There will be a discussion about the proposed Economic Alliance.  The 1st annual cost for the Economic Alliance director and staff will be approximately $77,270.00.  The townships will be asked to contribute to this cost.  There was discussion about what an Economic Alliance director would do.  Lee Olsen stated that this person would work on grants ad develop economic proposal proposals as well as work with new businesses in the county.

Talked about the county mapping program and about the county house numbering system.

There will be a public meeting with the Michigan Dept. of Transportation on January 22, 2001, at the township hall to discuss proposed improvements to M-32 from Beckett Road to Vienna.

Rep. Bradstreet will hold office hours at the Charlton Office Building on January
19, 2001, from 8:00 am to 9:00 am.

Talked about computer problems.

Samkowiak moved, Milbocker supported, to pay the General Operation bills presented in the amount of $ 29,817.79.  Ayes, all.  Motion carried.

Talked about replacing the ceiling tile at the township hall banquet room.  Decided to add this cost to the new budget and do this next winter.

Samkowiak moved, Maschke supported, to adjourn the meeting at 8:05 pm.
